Fifteen Minute Heritage Lottery Grant

Llantrisant Community Council has been successful in receiving funding for a #15 minutes Heritage Lottery Grant.  The aim of the grant funding was to make people aware of heritage within 15 minutes of where they live.

The Community Council had already worked with the Penrhys Pilgrimage Group planting bulbs at Llantrisant Castle and advising on the route as it passed through the Community Council area.  The Heritage Lottery Grant seemed the ideal opportunity to provide information boards to let local residents know a little bit of local history and also make them aware of the new Penrhys Pilgrimage Way which was completed in 2020.    The boards would also provide information for those walking the 21 mile walking route from Cardiff to Penrhys about the area they were currently walking through.

Partnership working between the Community Council, Rhondda Cynon Taff Bourough Council and representatives from the Penrhys Pilgrimage and Llantrisant Town Trust have resulted in two boards being designed.  One is sited on the Rhiwsaeson Road and one on the Llantrisant Common.

Parish Office is now a Keep Wales Tidy Litter Picking Hub!

picture of litter picking equipmentHelp make your community a cleaner and safer place to live, play and work.

A new litter picking hub has opened at The Parish Office, Caerlan Hall, Newbridge Road, Llantrisant which will allow the general public, community groups and businesses to borrow litter picking equipment to clean up their local area.

In total there are 20 litter pickers, hoops and hi viz jackets available to borrow, it does not matter if it is only you or a whole group you can still borrow the equipment.

The hub has been set up by the environmental charity, Keep Wales Tidy in collaboration with Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council and funded by Welsh Government.

Cllr Stephen Powell, Chair of Llantrisant Community Council commented “We are pleased to be able to be a hub for this fantastic community resource for the local area and look forward to working with the different people who come forward to borrow the equipment.”

Keep Wales Tidy encourages individuals and groups to take local ownership in order to improve environmental quality. Access to equipment will also help new and existing groups in becoming more sustainable and enable them to work independently.

Download a loan agreement form here and send it back to office@llantrisant-cc.gov.wales to book the equipment now!!

Llantrisant Community Council have worked in partnership with Taff Ely Ramblers and Ramblers Cymru (funded by the Postcode Lottery) to update and reprint the Community Bunny Walk Leaflets.

Taff Ely Ramblers helped ensure all of the marker rondials and posts were in position and walked the routes to make sure the directions were correct.

Ramblers Cymru organised and funded the designing and printing of the new leaflets along with photography – without their leadership on this project  we would still be looking at the 10 year old leaflets saying “they need updated”

A fabulous relaunch event was held on Llantrisant Castle Green, and despite the miserable weather there was a good turn out from both young and old.

The new leaflets can be found on our Footpaths page: https://www.llantrisant-cc.gov.wales/about-us/footpaths-rights-of-way/

On Thursday 6th June Llantrisant had the pleasure of welcoming a party of 6 from Crecy en Ponthieu –

Christelle Richard – 2eme Adjointe

Olivier Sueur – Conseiller Municipale

Nathalie Dacquet – Administration

Cindy Demailly – headteacher Ecole Primaire

Faustine Paes-Cosme – teacher Ecole Primaire

and a retired teacher Lisianne Astarick.

Transport during the visit was kindly arranged by PC Mike Perry and Helen Liberty using the Explorer Scouts minibus. Both had visited Crecy in 2017 as part of a delegation visiting the annual commemoration the 1346 battle.

Teachers Mike Hurford, Tonysguboriau Primary School and Nicola Prewett, Llantrisant Primary School had visited the primary school in Crecy in June 2018 and a year on both Tonysguboriau and Llantrisant Primary School had prepared a warm Welsh welcome for our delegation. The day included performances from pupils and the opportunity for our visitors to talk to teachers and pupils and look through wall displays and workbooks. The Year 6 pupils were shown a short film made by the pupils of Crecy and had lots of questions to ask our guests. Now Year 6 pupils are eager to create their own film in exchange.

Our day at the schools further built on our educational links between France and Wales. The initial contact between two of our local teachers in 2018 was now expanding  through both of our local schools as teachers at Tonysguboriau and Llantrisant met our 2019 delegation and explored ways the schools can work collaboratively to ensure pupils in both countries can share the understanding of each other’s culture, language and history. Exciting times ahead!

In the evening the delegation enjoyed a traditional Fish and Chip supper from our local chippy Scrumps. As guest of the Town Trust our delegation then went on to an evening’s entertainment at the Voices & Brass concert at Llantrisant Church.

Saturday saw another full day visiting St Fagans in the morning before attending the annual Big Picnic, on the Castle Green and completing a tour of Llantrisant that included the Billy Wynt, former Welsh School, Model House and the local shops.

It has become a tradition that visitors from Crecy enjoy an evening at the Cross Inn pub with the Llantrisant Male Voice Choir and this visit was not exception.

Sunday morning saw a lovely walk over the barrage from Penarth to the Bay before taking the water taxi to Cardiff Castle. There was time for a quick shop before heading back for our final meal together at the O’Sullivans Brasserie. French consulate, Madame Marie Brosseau- Navarro, based in Cardiff, joined our delegation together withMick Antoniw, AM.

The Council very much appreciates the support from so many in making this a memorable visit for us all.
